A friend of mine works for a booze company and was telling me about this new product Bassano Hard Soda. As a (sad) dedicated Palm Bay drinker, I was enthusiastic about trying a new pop like booze that would not put me into instant sugar shock.
Bassano is a vodka based “cooler” (I hate that word) that purports to be “less sweet with lower carbonation” than all the other brands in the cooler category. Before we get to a review of what is inside the bottle, let’s review the outside.
I love the box it comes in. It’s a print designer’s dream. I am particularly attracted to the raised lettering of Bassano – if you have OCD, this box is tactiletastic! The bottles are clear – the perfect beverage for (a) drinking on the beach (b) avoiding the cops while drinking on the beach (the author in no way condones beach drinking …..without her).
Right off the bat it is less sweet. It does have that light feel of an Italian soda (syrup and carbonation) and not the feel of booze and Sprite combined that you tend to get with the other hard liquor carbonated drinks. It had an airy, fizzy feel. It finished nicely and does not linger sickly sweet on the tongue.
I had a bunch of other boozers test it with me and out of 6 of us, 3 of us liked the lemon, 2 liked the raspberry and 1 liked both of them the same. Then we combined the two and everybody enjoyed the combo! The final thought was that after a few bottles of BHS, it still feels fresh and fizzy.
It’s 5.5% alcohol. In BC and Ontario the price is the same at $9.95 for 4.
Just had my first Bassano (Lemon Sanguinelli) and wow…flashback! It totally reminds me of a less sweeter version of a white Freezies popsicle. You know the kind that everyone fights over because there’s only 2 in each box?
